Ryoichi Taguchi vs. Milan Melindo
|Ryoichi Taguchi||Winner via Unanimous Decision|
In perhaps one of the most disheartening bout in his professional career as a boxer, Filipino champion Milan Melindo suffered a defeat against his Japanese champion counterpart, Ryoichi Taguchi.
Taguchi defeated Melindo via unanimous decision last Sunday before the end of 2017. The Japanese boxer who has the WBA Championship belt now also won the IBF Championship belt of the 29-year-old Filipino slugger.
Melindo looks bloodied because of the cuts he obtained during the fight held in Tokyo, Japan. The bout went toe-to-toe, but the taller and scrappy Japanese slugger is more aggressive in punching and intimidating the Filipino boxer until the closing round of their fight.
Not to mention the support he got from the Japanese crowd inside the Ota-City General Gymnasium.
The final scorecard of the judges went on 117-111, 117-111 and 116-111 all in favor of Taguchi. With the victory of the Japanese fighter, he now improved his professional record to 27 (12 via Kos)-2-2, and obtained the IBF title (108-pound) as well.
As for Melindo, he is now 37(13 via Kos)-3 and lost his chance to become a unified champion after the unanimous decision that handed 31-year-old Ryoichi the victory.
It is definitely a sweet victory before the New Year’s Eve to open 2018 with a pair of championship belts around him.
Some boxing observers and experts believe that the Filipino boxer needs a knocking ability to close the bout if necessary. He may need to develop better and solid punches, considering the he only has 13 victories via knockouts out of his 37 wins.
