The fans of the PBA are again back for the 2018 PBA Philippine Cup and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel fanatics are happy for the team after defeating the Magnolia Hotshots at their “Manila Clasico” matchup on the exact day of Christmas (December 25, 2017). The Gin Kings did not allow the Hotshots to play their usual game and showed tough defense to seal their victory on Monday evening.
The Gin King relied on their giant center Greg Slaugther who led the team in scoring with 24 points and grabbed 12 boards for the game. The other players who scored in double figure include L.A. Tenorio with 15 points, Japeth Aguilar scored 12 points and Jervy Cruz with 12 points.
Ginebra’s head coach Tim Cone praised his big man for playing well and said that this is the conference of Greg. Likewise, he felt happy for his team for playing better and showing enough energy to win their first game.
For the Magnolia team, Ian Sangalang led the team in scoring with 25 points, while point guard Paul Lee added 16 points, PJ Simon had 15 points and veteran Marc Pingris scored only 6 points for the game. They fell short to steal the victory because the Gin Kings played great defense and led all the quarters since the beginning of the game.
Ginebra will have a long break because their next game will be on January 7, 2018 against the GlobalPort Batang Pier at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Magnolia Hotshots on the other hand will face Kia on January 10 at the same venue.
