Despite playing as a rookie volleyball team in the ongoing Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix, the Iriga City managed to defeat the Victoria Sports-UST on Thursday with the final score of 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

The venue of the ongoing tournament is at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Iriga City played an impressive game against their rival and relied better with their import from Serbia, Tamara Kmezic. The win against the Victoria Sports-UST is crucial for the young Iriga team because they were able to move into the next round.

However, they want more that advancing to the next round of the tournament.
“We are talking that we don’t want to be last placed in the quarterfinals,” the 6-foot-7 Serbian Kmezic stated as quoted by inquirer.net online.

“We don’t want to face the first placers (in the quarterfinals),” she added.

The Serbian import scored 20 big points and helped the team with their second victory out of six matches (2-4). As for the Tigresses, they now suffered their sixth defeat in six matches as well (0-6).

The Lady Oragons was able to depend on their hard-spiking import who dominated her opponents. The Victoria Sports-UST tried relying on Shyrra Cabriana, but failed to keep the matchup closer.

The Tigresses had all their chances to steal the victory, but the intensity played by the Lady Oragons is good enough to move them into the next round.
