Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal
In the recently concluded Shanghai Masters tennis tournament in China, Swiss netter Roger Federer defeated Spaniard netter Rafael Nadal on Sunday to win the championship trophy.
Federer won the match with the final score of 6-4 and 6-3.
From the latest sports news report through Associated Press (AP), Roger Federer won the championship title of the recent Shanghai Masters on Sunday after defeating his rival Rafael Nadal, who is currently on the top ranking.
The 36-year-old professional tennis player from Switzerland is already a 19-time Grand Slam champion in the singles division, while the 31-year-old netter from Spain already won 23 times.
“I don’t know what my expectations were going in,” said Federer as quoted by AP news. “I thought I might struggle early on because it was a late finish last night.”
“I had no nerves before the match, surprisingly. I think I was pretty clear about how I wanted to play the match. I started off very well and relaxed from then on,” he continued.
Although he had been dominating this year, the Swiss netter believes that he may not surpass the record of his counterpart in terms of head-to-head match. According to him when interviewed by the media, it might not be possible because they do not have enough remaining years for the tournament.
“It’s not going to happen. We don’t have enough years left on the tour. We ranked too good so we play each other only in finals at the moment… You can’t win them all against Rafa, to be honest. He’s too good of a player,” said Federer.
His latest championship at the Shanghai Masters gave him his 94th career already for the open tournament. He is currently tied for the 2nd spot with Ivan Lendl of the United States.
