The Ceres Negros F.C. managed to handle the pressure against the former champion Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and defeated them successfully with the final score of 2-1 on Wednesday.

With their victory, they sealed a spot for the upcoming AFC Cup Asean Zonal Finals and they became the 1st ever football team from the Philippines to reach such tournament.

It was a stunning win for the Negros-based football team because it s not an easy task to deal with the JDT. Fortunately, Ceres will now have a chance to face the Home United of Singapore in the upcoming regional finals.

The winning goal of the Busmen came from Fernando Rodriguez who completed a penalty kick after Aidil Zafwan took him down.

During an interview with the press, Rodriguez said that he is confident that he can score and thought about his family although the game. He added that in most cases, a goalkeeper prepares to go one side and so he decided to choose the middle, which he scored successfully. The crowd inside the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City went wild and cheering to victory.

He made the winning penalty within the 94th minute of the matchup.

As for Ceres Negros head coach Risto Vidakovic, the team deserve to win after playing almost 180 minutes and the penalty is a huge turning point in defeating the JDT.

The matchup between the Ceres and Home United will be on August and the organizers will announce the exact date soon.
