In the current 2017 FilOil Premier Cup on Friday at the Flying V Centre in San Juan, the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons defeated the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) Cardinals with the final score of 80-72.

The Maroons won their debut game, despite trailing in the 3rd period.

The guards of the UP basketball men’s team played the best offense led by Jun Manzo who scored 13 points, Paul Desiderio scored 10 points and rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño scored 12 points for the game. With their team effort and resistance to loss, the Fighting Maroons won their first game in the Premier Cup basketball league.

UP center Ibrahim Quattara is the leading scorer with 16 points.

Both Mapua and UP fight a close game until the final buzzer of the game, but the Maroons played good defense and offense to seal their victory. UP head coach said that he always remind his players about the importance of bouncing back despite being down in the game. Regardless if they are leading or trailing, the team needs to bounce back, Bo Perasol said as detailed by the news.

As for the Cardinals, Victoria led the team with 14 points, Raflores added 10 points, Bunag, Gabo and Magboo scored 8 points each.
