Despite losing Myla Pablo after suffering from a back injury, the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors managed to defeat their rival BaliPure Water Defenders in the 5th set on Thursday at the current Premier Volleyball League in the Philippines. With the win, they are now on top of the team standing with 6 wins and 2 losses.
The Lady Warriors showed their willingness to win the game against the tough Water Defenders and successfully defeated them in the 5th set. Unfortunately, they fought without their top hitter Myla Pablo who obtained a back injury and needed to leave the venue heading to the hospital.
The Pocari Sweat overcomes the resilience of the BaliPure and sealed their victory at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
It is not an easy win for the Lady Warriors after losing Pablo, but Edina Selimovic stepped up on the game in the 4th set and led her team to win the match up. They were down 13-21 before Selimovic played a huge impact to the team and beating their rival in the 4th set 27-25 to equalize the game.
Selimovic is from Bosnia and playing as an import for the Lady Warriors. She had a total of 24 points with almost 17 attacks and 7 blocks. Aside from her, the team also has Michelle Strizkak who is an import from the United States.
For Pocari Sweat head coach Rommel Abella, the effort of her players in the 4th set paid off and provided them the momentum heading to the final 5th set. Abella believed that their opponents are stronger than them.
After the loss, BaliPure now had a 4-2 record and the top scorer for the team is Keddy with 21 points. They still have the best chance to advance into the next round of the competition.
