South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Mississippi State

FINAL SCORE

South Carolina Gamecocks 67
Mississippi State 55

In one of the most surprising turn of events in the NCAAW season this year, the South Carolina women basketball team defeated the Mississippi State 67-55 to win the national championship. The Gamecocks needed an overtime period before they beat the 4-time defending national champion in a hard fought game.

What makes the win to the South Carolina team is that this is their first-ever title since they join the league. They needed several years and seasons played before they were able to achieve their goal and took home the championship trophy for the University of South Carolina.

From the statement of Dawn Staley as quoted by the online news, she said, “You have to have patience, you have to persevere, stay with it.” She added that, “If something is a goal of yours to accomplish, you don’t give up on it. I never gave up on winning a national championship, no matter how hard it was, no matter what it looked like.”

Dawn Staley is the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team.

Center A’ja Wilson won the Most Outstanding Player award and played a huge game for the Gamecocks by scoring 23 points, grabbing 10 boards and with 4 block shots.

As for Mississippi head coach Vic Schaefer, his players lacked the energy he needs to level the performance of their opponent. Of course, he gave credit to the South Carolina team for playing well against them.
