The Sam Miguel Beermen dominated the Barangay Ginebra Kings to win the 2017 PBA Philippine All-Filipino Cup with the final score of 91-85 and ending the 7-game series to 4-1. Despite the presence of Robert “The Living Legend” Jaworski at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night, the Beermen did not give the Gin Kings an opportunity to steal the victory.
The San Miguel team closed their finals matchup in only five games and point guard Chris Ross who won the Finals MVP. The 31-year-old Ross is performing well this conference and he truly helped the Beermen reached the All-Filipino finals to win the title. He is a treat in both defense and offense, which gave headaches to his rivals from the opposing team.
He managed to score 12 points, grabbed 8 boards, gave 10 assists and with 6 steals.
San Miguel head coach Leo Austria is happy about their third All-Filipino championships and likewise praised his players as well as coaching staff for their victory. In addition, Austria gave credit particularly to his point guard Chris Ross who said that he is truly a fighter and eager to win the championship even before the start of the conference.
As for the Gin Kings, Japeth Aguilar led the team with 26 points, Jo Devance scored 20 points, Sol Mercado had 20 points and point guard LA Tenorio scored 10 points for the game. Despite their loss, the team still considered their runner up title as a huge blessing because they were able to play for back-to-back finals appearance.
